Ativista gay é espancado e roubado no centro de Porto Alegre

A Polícia Civil está investigando a agressão a um ativista homossexual que foi espancado e roubado na noite de domingo (5 de fevereiro) em Porto Alegre. O caso aconteceu na rua Sarmento Leite, região central da capital gaúcha, pouco antes de 0h.

A vítima, o universitário William Santos, 20, caminhava pela rua, em direção a um ponto de ônibus, quando foi abordado por dois homens. Segundo o estudante, um dos agressores lhe dirigiu uma ofensa homofóbica e, em seguida, o imobilizou. O outro agressor, então, começou a dar socos no rosto da vítima, que acabou caindo.

No chão, sem chances de se defender, Santos levou chutes pelo corpo e no rosto. Na sequência, lembra Santos, os agressores levaram a mochila e seu par de tênis. O universitário acredita que foi agredido por ser gay e que o roubo de seus pertences seja apenas consequência da agressão.

“Antes de tudo fui agredido verbalmente. Não é um roubo qualquer. Se a motivação fosse me roubar, teriam levado o meu celular, que era o objeto de maior valor que estava comigo”, afirma.

Santos afirma que ficou semiconsciente por alguns minutos. Em seguida, ligou para um amigo que o levou de carro até o pronto-socorro. A vítima teve quatro dentes quebrados, levou pontos no rosto e ficou com vários hematomas.

Santos registrou boletim de ocorrência no setor de pronto-atendimento da polícia um dia depois da agressão.

A vítima atuou por dois anos na ONG Somos, que defende a causa LGBT (Lésbicas, Gays, Bissexuais e Transgêneros). Atualmente, Santos estuda relações internacionais na Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. Ele conta que amanhã vai retornar à Natal.

“Não posso parar minha vida por isso, mas também não posso deixar passar em branco. É um fato doloroso, mas estou tendo apoio”, desabafa.

The Police Department has been investigating an assault and agression against a homosexual activist who was beaten up and mugged on Sunday night, February, 5th, 2012.

The victim is College student William Santos, 20, who was walking on the street, towards a bus stop, when he was assaulted by two men. According to the student, one of the aggressors voiced homophobic offenses and then immobilized him. The other aggressor, then, started to punch the victim's face, causing him to fall down.

On the floor, unable to defend himself, Santos was kicked all over and in the face. After that, he recalls, the aggressors took his rucksack and his sneakers. The College student believes to have been slammed for being gay and that the robbery of his belongings were just a consequence of the aggression.

"Above all, I was verbally harassed. It was not an ordinary case of robbery. Had the motivation been robbery, they would have taken my mobile, which was the most valuable object with me," says Santos.

Santos claims he remained unconscious for some minutes. After that, he called a friend who drove him to the hospital for first-aid. The victim had four teeth broken, had the face stitched and remained with several bruises.

Santos filled in a case after leaving the first-aid hospital one day after the aggression.

The victim worked for two years with an NGO which defends the LGBT rights. Nowadays, Santos studies international relations in the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Northeastern Brazil). He said he would return to Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte, where the university is.

"I can't stop my life because of it, but I can't let it go unnoticedly either. That is a painful fact, but I've been receiving support", he reveals.

LGBT people are still being persecuted in Brazil. There has been a lack of concrete actions by the federal government, principally. There was no favorable deployment to the victim in this case.
